On November 20–21, 2025, the II International Conference on “Food Safety and Joint Efforts to Reduce Antimicrobial Resistance” was held in Moscow.
The conference was attended by Erlan Kiyasov, Chairman of the National Expertise Center (NEC), and Gulzhan Maksutova, Project Management and Coordination Manager at NEC.
Erlan Kiyasov also served as the moderator for the session of reports from the participating countries of the Regional Laboratory Network of WECZA countries.
It should be noted that antimicrobial resistance remains one of the most serious global threats of the 21st century, requiring a coordinated approach by states and international organizations.
“Developing the laboratory service and enhancing its technical capabilities are key conditions for the successful monitoring of antimicrobial resistance. Kazakhstan consistently strengthens its laboratory infrastructure, expands the scope of research, and actively participates in regional and global initiatives. International cooperation allows us to exchange experience, implement best practices, and ensure a higher level of biosafety,” said Erlan Kiyasov.
As part of the implementation of the Second Roadmap on Antimicrobial Resistance until 2027, the National Expertise Center is a key executor of tasks related to laboratory diagnostics and monitoring of antimicrobial resistance.
Currently, the NEC carries out:
“Our research confirms the need for systematic control over residual antibiotic levels and microbial resistance in the food chain. NEC’s laboratory data serve as an important basis for management decisions and ensuring the food safety of the population,” noted Gulzhan Maksutova.
Participation of the NEC delegation in the conference allowed for the expansion of professional contacts, discussion of challenges and trends in antimicrobial resistance, and presentation of Kazakhstan’s achievements in strengthening the laboratory service and implementing national policies to combat antimicrobial resistance.
